Radiant heat from the metal hood

Designs that have a steel canopy mounted around the fireplace produce good heat radiation. In designs where the canopy consists mainly of glass, the glass acts as an excellent radiator and the heat transfer is even higher. When masonry is used to build-in the fireplace, the convection heat is returned to the room through vents in the sidewall.
